Croeso/Welcome

Dear Parents and Students
Welcome to Monmouth Comprehensive School
In our school we encourage everyone to have the highest expectations of themselves and each other as together we Learn to Lead our Lives.
We are proud of our students’ academic achievements. Just as importantly, we are a school that cares. We believe that students need to feel comfortable and secure in order to learn and, as a school, we put as much emphasis on creating a supportive and happy environment as we do on academic success. We achieve both.
I look forward to working with you to ensure the very best learning and life for the young people in our care.

SUMMER LEARNING
Summer Learning Week
Summer Learning Week takes place during the last week of June. The aim of the week is to move beyond the ‘walls’ of the classroom and provide learning opportunities in an authentic and exciting way. Much of the work is built around our local and national communities.
Year 7 are involved in building skills of team work and independence using the Wye Valley.
Year 8 take forward the ‘Appetite for Life’ agenda and are engaged in learning about health, food and local farming in a project called ‘Seed to Stomach’.
Our Year 9 students follow an Enterprise Programme which brings together the skills of running your own business.
KS4 students continue with their Welsh Baccalaureate Programmes of Study and focus on career choices, Essential Skills and community Work.
For Y12 it is an opportunity to produce their personal statements in preparation for University, apprenticeships and work based training.
The learning focuses on making a difference to the community in which we all live and showing students how they can contribute to their world.
