Welcome to Monmouth Comprehensive School, and to our website.
We are absolutely determined to provide an exceptional standard of education for every child that comes to our school, so that they have the opportunity to lead happy and successful lives. In order for that to happen, our students need to do two simple things - work hard and be kind.
We are a welcoming and caring school that also has exceedingly high expectations of every single one of our students. We take great pride in enabling them to grow and to flourish.

Register for Virtual Open Days with Universities: https://www.opendays.com/
The decision of which university to apply to is one of the most exciting and important decisions in a Sixth Form student's life. Y13 tutors are on hand to support Sixth Formers and, in the summer term of Year 12, the formal registration process begins. This support is for all individuals, tailored to each student's needs.
A few useful websites to support students are given below. This is designed to assist with the planning and preparation prior to formal application.
University Open Days - Here students will find a list of all the up and coming Open Days. These tend to take place during the summer term of Year 12 and the autumn term of Year 13. Follow the link to find out when visits to the universities are available.
Oxford or Cambridge - These universities have extremely high admission requirements and are very selective. Applications have to be received by mid-October in Year 13 and students are expected to research colleges and courses well beforehand. GCSE performace must contain a considerable number of A*/A grades and students are expected to have the potential to achieve three A grades or better at A Level. Further information is available from Mr B Green, our MAT Co-ordinator.
Medicine - Students thinking of applying for Medicine should visit the link which provides useful information about the application process.
Apprenticeships - Apprenticeships in Wales are a way to earn a wage and work alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills.
Coupled with additional training from a partner training provider, the individual will work towards nationally recognised qualifications.
Student Finance Wales - Student Finance England - University can be expensive and it is important that students and families establish how much the experience is likely to cost. This link provides useful guidance to families and students about financing courses, as well as information relating to grants and student loans available.
For students living in Wales, a guide to student finance support may be found by clicking HERE.
Unistat - This site is designed to help students make an informed choice when deciding which UK university or college to apply to. It includes the results of the latest National Student Survey and ranks universities on the basis of student well-being and course satisfaction.
Dear Parents and Students
Welcome to Monmouth Comprehensive School
In our school we encourage everyone to have the highest expectations of themselves and each other as together we Learn to Lead our Lives.
We are proud of our students’ academic achievements. Just as importantly, we are a school that cares. We believe that students need to feel comfortable and secure in order to learn and, as a school, we put as much emphasis on creating a supportive and happy environment as we do on academic success. We achieve both.
I look forward to working with you to ensure the very best learning and life for the young people in our care.
